Truth or Dare

Insert #1: Pre-Mid-Term Jitters
Artist Trading Card for December 15, 2018: Truth or Dare by Damaris O'Trand

A self-closing cover with 3 double-sided inserts. The cover was modified to fit the size of an ATC Card: 2.5" by 3.5". The cover is based on Chapter 36: Self Closing Wrapper in the book, "The Art of the Fold: How to Make Innovative Books and Paper Structures" by Heidi Kyle and Ulla Warchol.

For the covers, I used pattern pieces cut out from the fashion magazine, "W" date unknown.

In Case I Forget What Friends Who Travel to the Other Side of the Planet Are For

Thank you for your E-mail:

I love your little folded books that say so much in so little space, both text and images.
Love,

Math with Bad Drawings: Ben Orlin

Just finished reading "Math with Bad Drawings" by Ben Orlin. So wish I'd had a teacher like Ben when I was in high school. This is a must read for anyone who is still afraid of math and anyone who likes a good joke. Click here to check out Ben's Blog and website: Math with Bad Drawings

Composer, Emily Bond

Listening to some delicious music videos created by an old friend. I can now say, I knew her when. I've added her site to my links of interest. If want to hear some great music, click here: Composer, Emily Bond.

"Resist and Persist"

Art-4-Art, Lyons Regional Library, Lyons, Colorado
Oct. 20, 2018Title: "Resist & Resist"
Artist: Damaris O'Trand, The Gutter Artist
Medium: Water Color and Pebeo Drawing Gum and Winsor & Newton Masking Fluid resists on Canson Cold Press, 140 lb., some use of Crayola Markers

The idea for this series came after finding a bee's wax melting pot and a supply of bee's wax at the Lyons Memorial Labyrinth. Using wax like a batik resist on paper was labor intensive. Waiting for resist to dry, then painting, then waiting, then removing, then improving, then messing up, then allowing, then discovering the labels don't stick to wax, then starting over, then finding Yao Cheng's videos on www.creativebug.com, and buying Courtney Cerruti's book, "Playing with Surface Design: Modern Techniques for Painting, Stamping, Printing, and More." I call this process, "Resist and Persist."

Damaris, The Gutter Artist, Art-4-Art, Lyons Regional Library, "Signing Stones, Year 5"

Title: "Signing Stones, Year 5"
Media: Water Color on Bristol Paper
Artist: Damaris O'Trand (a.k.a., The Gutter Artist)
Original: 8.5" x 11" Cut to ATC size: 2.5" x 3.5"
Front and Back Covers and 10 Original Cards

This is the fifth anniversary of the Great Front Range Flood of September 12, 2013.This month's ATC's are  based on the memory of the sounds of boulders being carried down the river, the music of their knocking against each (a sound like bowling balls and pins hitting each other but muffled). I'm inspired by the resilience of the human spirit. Stones not only sing they sign: Faith in the Journey; No Regrets; Know Your Limits."
